Music for student writing

Hello!

Here is a page with instrumental pieces of music for students to write to. These pieces of music come in pairs for comparison and contrast.

Here are the pairs. Choose one (1) pair and compare and contrast the two pieces of music of the pair.
Which one makes the greater impression? Which one expresses a more powerful or impressive feeling, mood, or scenario, or even gives the idea of a kind of story, though music?

Finally, imagine a story that goes with the one (1) piece of music you liked best. What kind of story could you write to it? Who or what is in it? What is happening in it? Are there people, or animals? Is it outdoors or indoors? What kind of a place is it? You can put yourself there if you like!

Here are the pairs of pieces of music:

Pair #1

Erik Satie, Ragtime Parade

Vietnamese traditional music

Pair #2
Jeff Beck, "Beck's Bolero"

Mike Bloomfield and Al Kooper, "Stop"

Pair #3
