Culture through English & Freshman English Reading B: Notes for final presentations・期末プレゼンテーションのノート

Hello and Happy New Year to all my Culture through English and Freshman Reading students!

How are you? Here are some notes for both classes about next week's (1/15) final presentations. These are things you should have ready for next week:

 

Printed-out slideshow handout (in black and white or grayscale) - PLEASE DO NOT print out your slides! Only a slideshow handout of 1-2 pages!

 

In your slideshow you should have:

• Title slide with your name, the name of the class, and the words final presentation on it
• A summary slide
• Then 4-5 slides in the body (中心 ) of your Power Point
• A closing or concluding slide ("Thank you for your attention", or a message like it on it)

Please remember that everybody needs to be here in the classes next week! The final presentations are like final exams, so you cannot miss next week! It will be our last meeting.

Freshman English Reading B: Fall semester final presentations・後期期末 プレゼンテーション

Hello!

How are you? Here are the guidelines and deadline for our fall semester final presentations (後期期末プレゼンテーション). 

The guidelines are the same as for the mid-term (中間) presentations. Like before, you will choose a different book from the library, read it, and present about it. 

So go to the library on your own. This is a very important point! Next week (12/11) - have a book to show me!

Please have these points in your presentation:

• A summary (要約) about the story - what is it about?
• The main character(s) of the book
• The qualities (質) or characteristics (性状) of the main character(s)
• The most interesting or exciting situation or event in the story
• The character you liked the most - and what qualities he or she had 

Guidelines

For this presentation like before, you make a Power Point show. You have to have a title slide, 5-7 slides with pictures and text on it, then a concluding slide that is colorful and interesting to look at. 

Deadline (締め切り)

We will do these presentations on January 15th, 2020 (1/15/20), so you have more than one (1) month to work on these.

In our next class (12/11), please show me what you are reading and will present on and we will make some time to do some work in class on the presentations. I would like to see your work and give you some advice on what you can do to make the best presentations you can. Please be ready to present on 1/15/20!

How are you? Above is a flyer I was given about a special event that will be next week on November 27th (11/27) about Thailand.

Freshman English Reading B: Traveling in south India ・南インドの旅行

Hello!

How are you? Today, to go with our textbook reading, I have a video made by an American who has learned how to travel without spending a lot of money. 

His name is Gabriel Morris and he made this video of his trip to Gokarna, a small town in south India that is famous as a Hindu temple site.

Look at the picture at the top. It's of the Mahabaleshwara Temple, which is the most famous in Gokarna. Here is where Gokarna is located in India:

7. How much did the man at the restaurant say that a multi-course thali meal cost? 

8. What did the sign at the Gokarna beach say that a person cannot do? 

9. What is the other drink that he gets later in the afternoon? 

10. How much did it cost him to get his clothes washed? 

11. How much did his thali meal cost? 

12. How much did his total expenses for the day come to in U.S. dollars? 
      *About how much do you think this would be in Japanese yen?

• It has to be colorful and interesting to look at
